The Archive and Genealogy service has responsibility for the preservation of the civic archives and private collections relating to industry, buildings and social history. The collection is a valuable source of information providing a comprehensive record of significant developments in the city from the mid 17th century. The genealogy database www.derry.rootsireland.ie includes over one million records. The staff are available by appointment to give short presentation on the collections and tracing your ancestors.

Derry Genealogy Database

A database of over one million records, dating from 1642 to 1922, has been extracted from the major civil and church registers of the city and county of Derry. On registration, which is free, you can access this database at www.derry.rootsireland.ie; and, by purchasing credits, you can then view index search results and view full details recorded against any selected record.

Genealogist

Derry Genealogy Centre also offers a free advice service to anyone tracing their roots in the North West. Be it a query about place names, surname origins, sources to search or record offices to visit, visitors and locals alike are encouraged to forward their queries to Genealogist, Brian Mitchell.

Brian, an accredited member of the Association of Professional Genealogists in Ireland (M.A.P.G.I.), has been involved in local, family and emigration research in the wider Derry area since 1982.
